My magazine: Barcode

For my Preliminary task, i took an image of a barcode from google images. For this task i have found a more creative and unique way for my magazine to have a barcode, without me having to draw the barcode, as this wouldnt be very proffesional.

I stumbled across this website: http://www.morovia.com/free-online-barcode-generator/

It is hard to see, but below my barcode is *Maverick Magazine - March 2013*. I have added this because in some magazines, this is where certain magazine details would be. Usually included would be details possibly about the price, the date, and the issue number. I like this because it is alot more unique to my own magazine.

above is the final magazine barcode.

My magazine: Incorparating proffesionalism

PROFFESIONALISM

I can easily find out what people will want in my magazine, but i feel that it is hard to make it look professional. I think a magazine should look professional, and i feel this is hard to achieve in some cases, as i don't have technical equipment, that the proffesional magazine guys would be using. However there are many factors of my magazine i can look at to improve the proffesional image i am looking for.

Barcode: I have noticed on most magazines that there is a barcode, this may seem obvious, but this really will make my magazine look alot more professional, even adding a barcode to my drafts makes it look more professional, like a real magazine.

Colour: The colours in magazine, always come together and work well together. There is always a colour theme.

Logo: Magazines usually have something that makes the readers know that you are rreading their magazine. for example a logo, i have added a logo of a bird to my magazine and think that this makes it look alot more proffesional.

Layout: The layout also makes a magazine look professional. This is so far what i am having difficulty with, i am never sure where to put components on the page. However i am using photoshop to change things about slightly, so that they look how i want them to look.

Images:If an image has been done proffesionally it will look proffesional, and like thhat on a real magazine. I do not have the equipment, however taking images on white backgrounds, or plain backgrounds, makes a magazine look much better. If the images aren't perfect you can change certain factors on photoshop, and this really helps.

Editing:On my draft magazine i have not cut out bonnie correctly, using photoshop makes this alot more simple, and creates an exact outline of the image you are editing.

Text: Usually on a magzine there are varuous fonts. You rarely see them using typical microsoft word fonts like arial and times new roman, as people see these too much. Especially with company they have made there text look appealing, and everywhere you look there are different fonts and text sizes, which interests the reader, but doesnt make the page look too messy.

Graphics:I really like the idea of adding graphics, this gives the reader more too look at and brings everything together, and almost creates a housestyle that can be used on every page.

My magazine drafts are changing slightly, after looking at making my magazine look proffesional, i have decided that i should add certain features to make my magazine look alot more like a real magazine.

My magazine: Practising photoshop

I decided it would be a wise idea to start looking at how photoshop worked, because although i had looked at it before in product design lessons, i was still not very confident at using the programme, so when i had some free time at school, i decided that i would have a practice go and edit an image, here is the results.

Here is the initial Hannah image, i have posted this before.

Before, this image of Hannah is a basic shot at school, a medium shot which looks nothing like the vintage look that i wanted to achieve. What i wanted to do with Photoshop is make her look more vintage without having to do her makeup, and hair, and put her in more vintage clothing at school, when there was minimal time. Heres what i came up with:

I have clearly changed Hannahs hair, and made it typical vintage of the time. I personally like what has been done, however it doesn't look at real as i would've hoped. I have defined her eyebrows, as this was more common of the vintage time. I have added eyeliner to Hannahs eyes, and lipstick as well as more pinky cheeks! I thought that the shirt that Hannah had on, was smart anyways, and a nice colour to compliment her makeup.

My magazine: Having a logo

Many magazines are recognised, by the title, and in some cases a logo. They use a logo to help with their house style, as they can feature it on the pages of the magazine, where it is relevant. I want to have a logo for my magazine, so that people can recognise my magazine,  and associate it with the logo i choose.

Here is a tattoo that i would associate with vintage style.  I really like the idea of having a bird like this as my logo. I do not wish for the bird to be similar to the Twitter logo however i feel that i can make the logo my own, because i feel it would work really well with my magazine.

My magazine: Title

As i said in my draft i wish to call my magazine "Maverick"

here is the definition that i want to come across in my magazine:
I then looked at the fonts i would like my title to be in, below are the results from my font choosing :

These are some fonts i have considered. However my favourite is the top one and i have also featured this in my blog many times, but have not yet added it to my draft, in case i decide one of these is better.

1) The first one is almost like a card sorta font. I like it because it automatically made me think of the magazines genre, just from looking at it, you can tell it would not be a font for hip hop, it looks alternative.

2) This is a vintagey font however i am not too sure if its exactly what i am looking for. This looks very old fashioned, and in some cases hard to make out what the letters are.

3) I like this font because it looks very vinatgey and old school Hollywood. This may be my second favourite choice.

4) This one is also quite old fashioned looking, however i feel it also has a space age sorta theme to it when i look at it, this is not my favourite.

I asked 20 people about the fonts, and described what i wanted my magazine to be like. The results are as follows:

Photoshoot plans!!

This is my first prezi, it is not in too much detail however shows what i wish to do with my photoshoot for my main artist:

Images of Bonnie !!

Here are my main images, they are of Bonnie, a friend of mine, who i feel has the right look and image, that i can work with in order to make her my front cover model. Below is all the images of Bonnie. I will later discuss which ones i have used.
