Preliminary front cover

Here is my final front cover. I am happy with the outcome!

My front cover

My front cover shows a clear title of what the magzine is, "the school bell". I've chose this colour because it is one of the colours that are present in St.Marks colour scheme, and i want to try and go on this theme, as my model on the main front page, is wearing a st marks blazer, and tie. I have tried to fade out the bottom of the image of Chloe, in order to make her face stand out the most. I have added a barcode to make the maagzine look more proffesional, however after thinking about it, a school magazine would most likely be free, or just in the reception for people to read, so i am now thinking this was possibly a bad idea. I have the date on top, I have made it a monthly magazine, as most of the news would happen over a month, not just over a week. I also would like to feature the Jack Petchey student who wins an award each month. I like the text that says "Read more inside" i think this looks proffesinal, however next time i would've made this closer to the text saying "student in Year 7 wins the Jack Petchey award". I have cut out an image of Lewis, and captioned it "What he said" this is part of the gossip part of the magazine. I have also an image of a teacher, who is dressed nicely, to feature in my fashion section of the magazine. This magazine is mainly taregeted at the students, and how they are getting on in the school. This magazine would most likely be written by students as well, as a gossip magazine is more informal, than a magazine about a sixthform course etc. I have chosen this background colour, because i think it compliments the deep burgundy of the title text, i also like it because its light enough for you to be able to see things on easily, however it is not white. I didnt want this to be white because this is a plain colour, and rarely any magazines have just a white background. I have used large text with the caption for the main poicture as it is the main story. After looking at NME magazine one thing i don't like about my magazine, is that most of the images feature someone looking into the camera, but everyone else loooking away, possibly involved in a task or what not. I would prefer if more people were looking away, but as it is a gossip magazine, this is the people in the magazine opening up to the audience. I have used the font "IMPACT" on my magazine as i think its a fun, but not too informal or formal of a font group. It gets the point across, and is easily readable. I could've used arial, but i think this is too common.

Photoshop

I began to get more familiar with photoshop, however there are some things that i would've liked using it to help me with. For example, the rulers and items sticking out of Chloe's pocket. I would've liked to get rid of these in order to make her uniform look smarter, as she is meant to be recieving an award due to her excellence. Also, as it was snowing this day, there was some snow that was in chloe's hair, I didnt want this, as it looked slightly unprepared, and like i had just taken an image of anyone. I tried to use a clone stamp tool to get rid of this, but unfortunatley this didnt go to well, and looked unnatural. I like that i could cut lewis out from his originial background, however would've liked to make the image larger overall so that it looked more imoortant, and took up more space. I also would've liked to get rid of the clutter in the background of the teachers room, there is a cardboard box, and other items, which i think would've looked better if they werent included. However i have enjotyed trying out photoshop, and didnt know that it had so many features that i can use.
